Beyond the Box, an initiative spearheaded by the CPI (Confederation of Paper Industries), has today launched a campaign with the UK’s leading creative activity provider, Creation Station, to help promote the sustainable qualities of cardboard packaging among children and their peers.
The campaign invites families to take part in a competition, in which young participants will be asked to craft a story with characters made from cardboard, before sharing their creations on social media. The winning design will be transformed into a stop motion animation clip.
Families can either take part in the competition online or by joining local classes hosted by Creation Station across the UK between 22nd and 31st May, across the UK.
Sarah Cressall, CEO of Creation Station, says: “In a time when we’re all increasingly thinking about how we can play our part in being more eco-conscious, Beyond the Box is encouraging people to embrace cardboard for its environmentally friendly qualities.”
“The reason why cardboard is such a hit with children is that it has the same creative appeal of Lego – it can be repurposed and rebuilt into something else entirely. The only thing restricting the user is their imagination.”
Andy Barnetson, Director of Packaging Affairs at CPI, says: “Cardboard is recyclable, renewable and reusable and therefore should be the UK’s number one packaging choice, but not enough people are aware of its sustainable credentials.”
“Partnering with an organisation that’s delivered award-winning, fun and educational arts and crafts classes such as Creation Station is a great way to spread awareness and get British families to think more about the types of packaging materials that are used every day.”
Families can join the competition online by posting pictures to social media using the hashtag #choosecardboard and tagging both Beyond the Box and Creation Station.
Families can book a creative session at one of Creative Station’s local franchises by visiting thecreationstation.co.uk .
Terms and conditions apply. Deadline for entries is 31st May 2023.
